Map Routing

With this map routing feature, you can create a complete navigational path for an entire floor or even your whole building. It allows you to guide users to any resource on any level of the facility. The system can display turn-by-turn directions, showing users how to reach their booked desk or meeting room using the most suitable route -whether that’s via stairs, elevators, or the nearest available exit. This ensures a seamless, intuitive wayfinding experience for all users.

This provides an overview of how the map routing functionality works.

To start building a route within your map viewer, please follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Map viewer – this is mandatory starting point.

  2. Include portals when the map viewer connects multiple floors or contains multiple exits.

  3. Add doors to rooms if they are represented as layers on the map.

  4. Add the route and ensure all bookable resources are properly linked to the map viewer.

The items mentioned in the following points can be added one by one by selecting them from the Add Resource drop-down menu.

Add Map viewer

To add the map viewer icon on the map select Add map viewer from the Add resource drop-down menu.

The Map Viewer is the starting point for any routing on the floor plan.

Place the Map viewer icon on the map in the exact location where it is located on your floor or within your building and then link it to your Map viewer.

Error message appears if you select wrong map viewer to link it on the floor plan.

Add Portal

If your Map Viewer is linked to multiple floors and there are several ways to move between them, add a portal for each connection – such as exits, elevators, or stairs – using the Add resource drop-down menu.

Start by selecting Add portal from the Add resource drop-down menu.

By adding portals, you can include all exits, elevators, and stairways on your floor plan.

The ‘Goes to Everywhere’ option means that this exit can be accessed from any resource and it is recommended for floors with one exit. If you have multiple exits, stairways, or elevators, you can instead link the item to a specific portal group.

Portal groups

In case of multiple exits, stairways, or elevators that lead to another floor, you first need to create portal groups. For example, you might create groups such as Stairs Left and Stairs Right. These groups help the routing feature calculate the closest and most accurate path to the selected resource.

Select Portal group from the left side menu and Add new portal group by typing the name and saving it.

Add Door

If any resources on your map – such as meeting rooms, desks, or parking spaces – are linked to a GoBright layer on the map image, you must first add doors to these resources before creating the route. These doors serve as entry points where the routing system will guide users to the resource.

To add doors, select the bookable resource on the map, then choose the ‘Add Door’ option from the left-side menu.

Adjust the size of the icon and move it to align with the door on the map. Add doors to all your layers with bookable resources.

These door icons will not be visible for the general users on the Map in the Dashboard.

Add Route

Once you have everything prepared, you can begin mapping out your route on the floor plan.

Draw the route:

1. Select Add route from the Add resources drop-down menu. The drawing pen will appear.

2. Click on the map where you want your route to begin. This will create the first anchor point.

3. Click on additional points along the map to place more anchor points and shape your route.

4. Press Escape on your keyboard to exit drawing mode.

5. Double click to start drawing another route.

6. Click on the route and with the pen+ sign you can add another anchor.
