Know how your campus is actually used
From lecture hall to study desk: GoBright makes building use visible, and gives students and staff a campus that simply works.
One platform for booking rooms and workspaces, welcoming visitors, screen communication and wayfinding; fed by real-time occupancy and utilisation data from sensors and from the WiFi network you already have.
The Challenge
Your buildings are fuller on paper than in practice
Timetables are full. Lecture halls are half empty. Institutions build, renovate and lease additional space based on assumptions, while nobody knows precisely which rooms are structurally underused.
The pattern doesn’t match most people’s expectations. Students don’t arrive in one morning wave; campus attendance builds through to around midday. And the same Tuesday–Thursday rhythm reported in offices shows up in education too: those two days are consistently busier than the rest of the week, even though teaching schedules are spread evenly across it.
There are two likely drivers. Lecturers are more often on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays because that’s when meetings are scheduled, and students come in to see them. Attendance also dips on Mondays after the weekend and on Fridays after Thursday-night activities.
The result: two days where space is tight, three where it goes spare, and a timetabling process that has no visibility of any of it. Institutions that do have this pattern in view make better decisions: on estate strategy, on timetabling, on cleaning schedules, on sustainability targets. None of this needs a large IoT project. It starts with measuring what’s already happening.
THE SOLUTION IN THREE LAYERS
- Measure; see what’s actually happening. GoBright WiFi Occupancy measures usage across your whole campus through the managed WiFi infrastructure already in place. No extra hardware, no cabling, no sensors to maintain. First reports are typically available within about a week of connecting. GoBright Sensors add precision at room and desk level, exactly where you need it. The combination is deliberate: WiFi gives building-wide visibility at low cost; sensors add accuracy where it matters. Together, they cost considerably less than fitting an entire campus with sensors.
- Manage; give people control over the space. Booking meeting, project and teaching rooms. Booking study and workspaces via app, portal, floor plan or Outlook. Visitors who register themselves. Screens showing the right information at the right time. Wayfinding that gets people to the right room in an unfamiliar building.
- Decide; build the evidence for your estate strategy. GoBright Analytics turns all this data into dashboards and reports: peak moments, no-shows, underused rooms, trends by building, by user group and by period. Exportable, and connectable to your own BI environment.
GOBRIGHT WIFI OCCUPANCY
Building-wide visibility, without adding a single sensor
Your campus already has a fine-grained measurement network: the WiFi network. GoBright WiFi Occupancy uses the Location Based Services of managed WiFi platforms such as Cisco and HPE Aruba, and others.
What it gives you
- Utilisation by zone, floor, building and campus; real-time and historical.
- Patterns by user group; course, faculty, staff, students, guests. Always reported at group level.
- Automated reports that flag peak moments and structurally empty rooms, on the schedule you set.
- Occupancy rate and utilisation rate as two separate measures — is the space in use, and how intensively is that capacity actually used? Two different questions, and answering both leads to better decisions.
- Directly scalable adding a building is a configuration change, not a rollout project.
Measurement, data & insights
Counting presence is first part, next is understanding what the presence means is where the value sits. This is where our solution goes further than most WiFi-based measurement systems: it connects the measurement to your timetable, your organisation and your bookings.
Timetable against reality
We match measured occupancy against your timetable automatically, every day; real-time and historical, by course and by room. You see not just that a lecture hall was half empty, but which activity was scheduled and what group size was expected. That lets timetablers plan more precisely: smaller rooms where attendance consistently falls short, less overflow into external space at peak times.
Return frequency by group
How often does a group actually come to campus?
Return frequency differs by programme, by cohort, by year of study; not just by building or floor. That’s the metric that underpins estate decisions: how many places, for whom, on which day.
Groups you define yourself
Multiple labels can sit against each person measured, so someone can fall into several groups at once; course and cohort and location. You analyse along the dimensions your institution actually uses, without reconfiguring the measurement itself.
WiFi, sensors and bookings, brought together
WiFi measures the whole building, including corridors, the restaurant and study areas; places nobody puts sensors. Sensors add the detail WiFi can’t provide. We bring both into a single data model and connect booking data to it, so no-shows and the gap between booked and used become visible.
No lock-in to your network supplier
The solution works across multiple managed WiFi platforms. You choose your network on its own merits and keep your occupancy measurement regardless.
Privacy by design
No personally identifiable data is shown or stored. Measurements are group-based, identifiers are pseudonymised, and minimum thresholds per zone are set by you; your data protection officer sets the standard, not us. Monitoring individual staff or students is not possible by design, not by configuration.

IMPLEMENTATION AND SUPPORT
From intake to go-live, and reachable after that.
Delivered by a partner near you.
GoBright works entirely through a network of certified partners. Delivery, installation and day-to-day support are handled by one of our resellers, ideally the one already supplying your institution, so existing contracts, contacts and service desk routes stay in place. Where that’s not an option, we select a reseller in your region, so installation and on-site service stay quick to arrange.
GoBright B.V. remains your contracting party throughout, and stays responsible for the product and the service. Escalation to GoBright is always available, and if a partner is no longer able to support you, we transfer to another certified reseller without requiring a new procurement process.

How a project runs
- Intake: buildings, room types, WiFi environment, identity provider, and your reporting needs.
- Implementation plan: including sensor placement recommendations.
- Setup: tenant, SSO connection, buildings, floor plans, permissions and reports.
- Rollout: activate the WiFi connection, install sensors and panels.
- Acceptance testing: against criteria agreed in advance; measurement data is validated before you rely on it.
- Training and go-live: administrators, key users and end users.
SECURITY AND PRIVACY
Public sector values aren’t an afterthought
- Certified: ISO 27001 (information security) and ISO 9001 (quality management) since 2019, and ISO 14001 (environmental management) since spring 2026.
- Hosted within the EEA: exclusively with Microsoft and Amazon, on servers within the European Economic Area. No storage or processing outside it.
- Or not in the cloud at all: depending on the solution chosen, it can also run on-premise in your own environment, or be hosted in the SURF data centre.
- GDPR-compliant, using the SURF Model Processing Agreement 4.0.
- Privacy by design in every measurement: group-level, pseudonymised, no identifiable personal data.
- Secure access: SSO via SURFconext or Entra ID, roles and permissions on a least-privilege basis, MFA on administrator access, encryption at rest and in transit.
- Transparent on exit: full data export in open formats (CSV, JSON) and via the API, with a deletion statement afterwards.
SUSTAINABILITY
Measuring smarter means using less
A campus covered in sensors isn’t automatically a sustainable one. By measuring building-wide through the WiFi network already in place, and only adding sensors where precision is genuinely needed, you save on materials, batteries, installation and maintenance.
On top of that: screens already installed take on a second purpose, workspaces only draw mains power once someone checks in, and rooms that are structurally empty can be scaled back, repurposed or released with evidence behind the decision. Cleaning and catering can follow actual use rather than a fixed schedule.
Fewer square metres, less energy, less waste; and figures behind each of those claims.
This isn’t a loose promise. GoBright has held ISO 14001 certification for environmental management since spring 2026. An external auditor periodically checks that our environmental management system genuinely works, including the environmental aspects of procurement, hardware and logistics. That makes our sustainability claims verifiable, and usable in your own procurement sustainability reporting.
